Ittybit's Crafting Journal

I have to admit...I like to be organized as well as clutter-free (although I'm still fighting the clutter-free side of things.)  I hate to admit but I'm a highlighting queen as well.  I feel if I have a bright yellow, pink, blue or green color popping out it's something my eyes can't miss and it will alert my brain that something is coming up that's important.  Like making sure the bills are paid for the month or so that I can keep my car for another month :).  Either way I have some form of keeping organized.

As for my creative side I need my journal.   This is where I write down my ideas on future projects, colors or mediums that I will want to incorporate.  Whether it's a sewing project, paper craft project, soap making project or jewelry idea.  I know I will need to write it down or "poof" it will disappear and I will find myself trying to figure out what it was I wanted to design.   So the other day while I was in Michael's (my other home away from home) browsing the jewelry isle I came upon this really cute journal book.  How could I pass it up?  I loved the colors and the design was super cute.  So I snatched it up.  Oh yes...fresh clean pages to start writing down more ideas that are constantly brewing in my head that tend to lead to a massive brain overload.   And if I haven't said it enough there just isn't enough time in a day to do everything that I would like to do.   But I have to keep telling myself "patience young grasshopper."

Until my next blog my dear friends...

Here's a little insight into the owner of Vivian's Kitchen

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Angela Benge, a substitute teacher who has a crazy passion for creating cakes and cookies out of felt. I am lucky enough to have two super sweet daughters, Vivian and Lillian and a darling husband who support all of my madness and big dreams. I absolutely love what I do and hope that it makes people smile.

2. How did you become interested in creating?
I have been sewing and creating for as long as I can remember. My mother was a seamstress and always let me have free reign of her sewing room. I have a passion for creating and have tried just about every medium, but I always find fabric is what I love the most. I could spend hours in the fabric store. I started making felt food for my daughter's to play with and loved creating one of a kind cakes for their bakery. This in turn led to my first felt replica wedding gift cake and Vivian's Kitchen. Plus, I LOVE to eat cake, I just don't like baking.

3. What is your inspiration?
My work is almost always inspired by color. The felt is hand dyed and I experiment a lot, so I always end up with an amazing array of shades. They just always seem to tell me which direction I should go and what they want to become.

4. What is your favorite piece you've made and why?
My favorite piece I have ever made would have to be a felt doughnut. It was the first design I created out of felt and I am a sucker for the real ones. And it's a good thing the cakes are made of felt because I would want to eat them all.

A girl can never own too many head bands or clips.  I came across these great ones shopping one day.  I really like the silk patterned head band.   I long to see the day they make a pink hair clip  "sigh".   :)

Blog Update

It's been awhile since my last blog. I've been busy these past couple days needless to say.  But good things are brewing in the Ittybit Delights craft shop...I promise.  I'm currently working on my next blog giveaway and let's say I can't wait to get it posted! It's geared towards Valentine's day.  It should be done by this week so I can get it posted by Saturday.  I'm also working on some more exciting OOAK (one of a kind) jewelry pieces as well as adding some new handcrafted items to my shop that are non-jewelry related.   So stay tuned for all the fun and exciting things to come.

'41 Willies Handcrafted Gingerbread Cookie - From Ittybit's Kitchen

This is a handcrafted '41 Willies Coupe that my husband and I designed for my father-in-law during Christmas time.  My husband designed a cookie cutter in the shape of a Willies for me. It measures 10" in length and 3 1/2" in height.   It's all gingerbread and we decorated it using thinned downed royal icing in shades of blue, black and gray.   My father-in-law (and mother-in-law) absolutely loved.   It took him a few days before he would indulge in his cookie.   How funny!

Handcrafted Christmas Tree Cards

Lots of goodies with Christmas Tree cards.

                                              Handcrafted Christmas Tree cards.

                                                            Supplies used

I had fun creating these cards on my own.

I used the following supplies:
Silver scrap booking paper
Light purple scrap booking paper (not shown)
Purple swirly decorative scrap booking paper
Gray felt
White pom poms
Glue (Elmer's and a glue stick)
Silver paint (not shown)
Plaid Mini Pop Dots (peel and stick type)

When I purchased the purple swirly paper I noticed it was a bit flimsy.  So I decided to get some light purple paper which has the same thickness as card stock and used a glue stick to adhere each piece together.   Now I had the thickness  I needed.  Next  I made a triangular template for both the small and large Christmas Trees.  I then traced a bunch of small and large trees onto the back of the light purple paper that I had just glued (using the glue stick not the Elmer's) to the swirly purple paper.  Then cut all those out.  Once I had a field of trees I set those to the side and started to cut the silver scrap booking paper to the sizes that I would need to accommodate for each large and small tree.  Once my cards were done I set those to the side and then started to cut out little gray felt rectangles for each tree.  Once I had my gray rectangles felt shapes done I put those to the side and then started to work on my pom poms with the silver paint.  I pretty much did the same thing that I did for the wreaths project.  I squeezed some silver paint into a plastic cup and rolled the white pom poms in them with my fingers until they were all coated.   I let the pom poms dry overnight.  Now I'm ready to assemble.  I started out by gluing (with Elmer's) each gray felt piece first.  Once I had all the gray felt rectangles glued I then started on my tress. I wanted to glue my gray pieces first so this would give me a better idea on where to position the tree.  I placed three mini pop dots (the peel and stick type) on each corner of the trees then positioned it onto the card.  I set all these to the side and the next day I used some glue (Elmer's) to attach the painted pom poms.  Viola!  Cards are finished.

These didn't take me long at all to do.  Plus they are OOAK (one of a kind) and each person that received one really enjoyed it!
