Featured Artist - Concarta (paper wedding toppers)

                                                   Concarta
                                (all pictures supplied by Concarta)

I came across Concarta while shopping on Etsy. Concarta paper wedding cake toppers are handmade, one-of-a-kind works of art. Each and every sculpture is made with acid free paper, a variety of cutting tools, and archival quality glue.

The above pictures are just a few of the handcrafted paper wedding toppers that Concarta has designed.

Here's a little insight into the owner of Concarta:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an artist, and I live in Los Angeles with my husband. I am originally from New York, but have been becoming quite accustomed to the Los Angeles way of life. I don’t know how I ever survived east coast winters!

2. How did you become interested in creating?
I remember looking at art as a child just trying to understand how it was made and who made it. I still do this. I am fascinated by the processes and stories that surround beautiful/interesting objects.

3. What is your inspiration?
I am inspired by so many things, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I love doing research and can get almost over-inspired and really have to force myself to focus.

In terms of my paper sculptures, I am very inspired by the incredible range of paper. I think it is an inherently elegant material both at the lowest and highest ends (and pretty much everything in between), and there aren’t too many materials like that. I also particularly like making the dresses. Every dress is different and I can always find something that I admire about it and want to understand a little bit more.

4. What is your favorite piece you've made and why?
There are certainly pieces that stick out in my mind as having something that I would like to harness again or explore more, and there are a few pieces I have made where something just clicked in a way that goes beyond their technical virtues. I tend to get very excited over small “moments” - like the way a paper curl falls and catches the light, or the way a delicate line may end in a drawing - things like that. Generally though, I try to move on and not to be too sentimental about favorites - I love the feeling of starting something new!

Concarta also caters to those who need customizable wedding toppers as well.

Here's a little insight into the owner of Fallen Sparrow:

1.  Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Sarah and I'm a hopeless artistic entrepreneur. I live in a lovely town by the sea. I love walks on the beach even in the fog. In fact I love everything about the ocean... the smell, the wind, the sand....everything!

2.  How did you become interested in creating?
I was born into an artistic family. We were always doing fantastic art projects. One of my favorite memories was pressing & drying wildflowers and then making laminated bookmarks with the blooms. My imagination has always led me into creating something fanciful and expressive.

3.  What is your inspiration?
I am inspired by many things. I'm amazed by the composition of clouds on a day after rain, by the petals of a Pansy or a Wild Indian Paint Brush. I love the geometric and sporadic patterns you find everywhere in nature. I am completely inspired by color.....thank goodness I am not color blind! I love fabric....it just calls out to be created into something fabulous and interesting. I really enjoy looking at wedding blogs for color-story inspiration. Oh yeah and I can't forget to give props to my fellow Etsian's, I am inspired and amazed by such an incredible community of fellow artist's.

4.  What is your favorite piece you’ve made and why?
Hmm.. my favorite piece? Well, really I fall in love with every new piece I create.... but I always seem to lean towards anything bright and full of color! I love my Big Bags shown on my website ( not on Etsy at the moment ). They are made in fabulous retro and modern prints with vintage jewels. Right now I'm a little obsessed with feathers. I really love the Feather & Flower Clutches because they look like little art compositions.... full of color and texture. I love pieces that you wait to use for a special occasion.

Here's a little insight into the owner of Ickady Bag:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi. My name is Thiriya Ramingwong. I now live in Chiang Mai, the second big city, a beautiful northern province of Thailand. I grew up in Chiang Rai, a beautiful place to the north of Chiang Mai. I went to France two years ago to pursue my dream of studying dressmaking, but French was a bit too hard for me. :) I came back to Chiang Rai and started a one person business for making bags. I sold around one thousand bags in two years which was exciting. Then I got married and moved to Chiang Mai where I am now. My new family is truly amazing. They give me support in everything I do. My sister-in-law also inspires me to start an online shop on Etsy.

2. How did you become interested in creating?
I love handcrafting since I can remember. My mother had a business for selling handcraft supplies. That might be what got me into creating things. I love making clothes for my dolls when I was young. Doll clothes are not easy to find at that time, and my mom would not buy those things for me. So I made it myself. It was fun. I started making bags when I was in the University. I wanted to have new bags but I did not want to buy. So I made some for myself.

3. What is your inspiration?
I love to look at every source available. I looked through magazines for new ideas on bags. I looked at someone's bag when I walked pass them. When I had something in mind, I used Google to find the inspiration. I also love to draw when I get an idea. Etsy is a good place to look around to see what other people like.

4. What is your favorite piece you've made and why?
I have a few favorites. The first one is not a bag but it is a flower pin. The first bag I made for my Etsy shop is a simple pleated bag. So I thought of a way to decorate it, and I came up with a flower pin which now was given away with most of my bags. Customers like it. I think it makes bags more beautiful too. The second one is my ruffles laptop tote which I just sold the last one. It is functional and pretty. I love ruffles. I think I should do more. I love the bow bag too. :)

Featured Artist - MJS Paper Creations

                                                MJS Paper Creations
(all pictures supplied by MJS Paper Creations)

I discovered  MJS Paper Creations while browsing the "suggested shops" section.  MJS creates some really great paper flowers, tags, and cards.

MJ's Paper Creations specializes in handmade cards with matching gift tags and handmade embellishments . MJ's goal is to please, and pride themselves on good customer service. Some of MJ's products use their own handmade paper that they make by recycling junk mail, candy wrappers, can labels, colorful envelopes and more.
They also make sets of gift tags which might be great to include with your products as a thank you to your customers.

Samples from MJ's Paper Creations:

1. Handmade Flower/Recycled Paper Birthday Card and Tag Set - $3.50

2. Perfectly Pink Peony Embellishments set of 6 - $6.50

3. Pocket Card and Tag - $2.75

4. Shabby Chic Azure Flowers set of 6 - $6.50

5. Spring has Sprung Gift Tags - $4.00

6. Vintage Look Magnolia Flower Embellishments Tangerine and Yellow set of 6 - $6.00

Here's a little insight into the owner of MJS Paper Creations:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Mary and I was a long-time corporate manager until I decided that I wanted a less stressful life. I now happily work part-time in a completely different (and less stressful) job, and I finally have the time to figure out what to do with my ridiculously large collection of craft tools and supplies. When my husband and I moved to the sun in Arizona from the beautiful Northwest, one of the benefits was that I got a huge craft room – and I spend long hours, which seem like minutes, creating.

2. How did you become interested in creating?
As a kid, my sister was “the artistic one”, so in perfect sibling rivalry fashion, I stayed as far away from art as I could. Then one day, I decided to take an extended break from my corporate life and thought I’d try my hand at some crafting to explore my artistic side. From day one, I was hooked! First I made cards, and then soon I became known, in my circle of family, friends and co-workers, for my gift wrapping. I even had a small gift wrap business one Christmas. I still needed/wanted to do something with all the supplies I’d accumulated, so I took up scrapbooking, which only scratched the surface of my supply problem. My sister told me about Etsy and I’m having fun, not only making things for my shop, but I’m having great fun doing Etsy shopping too!

3. What is your inspiration?
Paper, paper, paper of all kinds inspires me. As odd as it may seem to some, I’ve always loved paper. Sometimes I just look through my stash and the ideas start flowing. Other times, just perusing a magazine (which is, of course, paper), I get ideas.

4. What is your favorite piece you’ve made and why?
My favorite piece is usually the last one I created. Creating something new/better is the fun part for me, so I am always working on something new. If I had to pick just one thing from my shop, I suppose my current favorite is the vintage-look vanilla magnolia embellishment set.

Here's a little insight into the owner of Noella Beauty Works

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Jackie. I'm 21 years old and I'm currently going to school for Visual Communications. I live in a little apartment with my boyfriend, Aziz and our two cats, Scout & Marissa. I spend the mornings in school, the afternoons and evenings in my studio working on Etsy and I also work at a coffee shop once a week.

2. How did you become interested in creating?
I've always been creative. When I was about 7 I got a Muppets Craft Book and I used to sit at my little craft station that I made in my parents garage and craft all day long. I made a two story dollhouse- hand cut shingles and all- out of cardboard. I then became interested in jewelry, which I played with for a little while. I grew bored of that and had found out how to make my own cosmetics and that became my new hobby. That's how Noella Beauty Works began :)

3. What is your inspiration?
I get a lot of inspiration from the changing seasons and fashion. I like to look through magazines and find outfits that inspire a color or collection as well. I'm also inspired by anything in Sephora. I imagine myself having my own little booth there one day (I can only dream!)

4. What is your favorite piece you've made and why?
My favorite product of mine is my Pine eyeshadow. It's a color I wear all the time and probably my favorite color that I've ever created.

I'm very excited to try out some of these wonderful products from NBW.  I have sensitive skin so it's nice to know that these products are made with the finest ingredients as well as being affordable.

4. Felt Valentine Cake Ornament Milk Chocolate And Vanilla Pink Rose - $18.00

5. Felt Cupcake Valentines Day Red and Pink Roses - $46.00

6. Felt Cake Ornament Chocolate Cake With Cottage Pink Roses - $32.00

Here's a little insight into the owner of Vivian's Kitchen

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Angela Benge, a substitute teacher who has a crazy passion for creating cakes and cookies out of felt. I am lucky enough to have two super sweet daughters, Vivian and Lillian and a darling husband who support all of my madness and big dreams. I absolutely love what I do and hope that it makes people smile.

2. How did you become interested in creating?
I have been sewing and creating for as long as I can remember. My mother was a seamstress and always let me have free reign of her sewing room. I have a passion for creating and have tried just about every medium, but I always find fabric is what I love the most. I could spend hours in the fabric store. I started making felt food for my daughter's to play with and loved creating one of a kind cakes for their bakery. This in turn led to my first felt replica wedding gift cake and Vivian's Kitchen. Plus, I LOVE to eat cake, I just don't like baking.

3. What is your inspiration?
My work is almost always inspired by color. The felt is hand dyed and I experiment a lot, so I always end up with an amazing array of shades. They just always seem to tell me which direction I should go and what they want to become.

4. What is your favorite piece you've made and why?
My favorite piece I have ever made would have to be a felt doughnut. It was the first design I created out of felt and I am a sucker for the real ones. And it's a good thing the cakes are made of felt because I would want to eat them all.
